Retail

One of the first retail centres to use Robop was the Priory Meadows shopping centre in Hastings. Their experience highlights the curious nature of bird control. The Centre had two problems, gulls and pigeons in the roof area and a colony of pigeons which had taken up residence inside the centre. We thought outside would be no problem for Robop but inside we were doubtful as to whether it would work. Well the reverse happened. Robop was spectacularly successful in clearing out the pigeons from inside the Centre and has remained in charge for more than 3 years. The outside proved less successful, attributed to the shape of the roof but nobody knows for certain. Other shopping centres include the Glasgow Fort where gulls have been successfully removed but where pigeons have been more difficult. Because access is difficult Robops have to run for a month between charges and this may be a contributory factor as movements are very infrequent. One of the biggest retail users of Robop is B&Q (the U.K equivalent of the US based Home Depot). Large B&Q warehouses have huge roofs which require syphonic drainage systems to clear away water when it rains. Such systems use a large number of relatively small bore pipes which can easily become blocked by nesting materials and other debris taken onto the roof by gulls. To avoid health and safety risks staff are not allowed on roofs so we have developed fully automated systems which only require periodic maintenance. One of these systems is driven entirely by solar panels which fits in well with B&Qs push into eco friendly technology for the home.
