Manufacture
Robops are manufactured at our base in Tranent near Edinburgh, Scotland. The fibreglass bodies, heads and wings were designed by Robop in collaboration with a highly specialised company who manufactures these parts to our specification. Circuit boards are made in a similar way. A large number of parts and sub assemblies go together to make each Robop. Our initial concept was to sub-contract all of the manufacturing process but attempts to do this failed to produce the level of quality we were aiming for. So, all Robops are now built in-house.
Over the last five years we have continuously refined the product in the light of experience in the field. For example the 2007 model has a re designed head assembly because on rare occasions we found that attacking gulls could actually knock the head clean off! Likewise the connectors on the pole birds have been changed because we found that the pins on some of the plugs were corroding after a year on site.
While our aim is to always have birds completed and ready to deliver, in practise for most customers their birds are built to order. Increasingly we are building fully automated turnkey solutions for customers.
