Is other battery technology available?

The other battery option we have been looking into is to use Lithium Ion batteries such as you get in laptops and mobile phones. These are supposed to handle a wider temperature range and suffer less from charging issues, except for one crucial point, they can blow up or spontaneously burst into flames if charged incorrectly! The other issues is that they cost 4 times the price. New developments in battery technology are coming on all the time and we keep a close eye on these developments to see if might be suitable for Robop. At this time however, the 13AHr NiMH battery pack currently being used in Robop is the best available.
