Agriculture is where the whole Robop venture started as founder Bob McIntyre used to manage a large horticultural estate where he observed many bird problems and tried many approaches before hitting on the idea of a deterrent based around a peregrine falcon. While we have conducted many successful farm trials we have relatively few farm customers. The key issue is normally the large area to be covered and the relatively high cost of Robop compared with shotgun gartridges or gas cannons. However, where there is a relatively high value product, or facility covering a small area Robop can provide the ideal solution as has been the case with Killara Chickens based near Inverness. A lot of chicken were either being killed outright or distressingly having their eyes pecked out by gulls. For some years now Killara use a trailer based Robop system with great success.
For farms with high value cash crops such as blueberries our development team aided by our partnership with the University of St. Andrews are working towards a solution where there is a need to deter large flocks of small birds such as cedar waxwings.
